drs. EW (Eric) Bezem becomes Director-General of Punishment and Protection at the Ministry of Justice and Security. The Council of Ministers has approved the nomination on the proposal of Minister Bruins Slot of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The appointment will take effect on July 1, 2022.

Eric Bezem has been deputy director-general of Punishments and Protection since 1 December 2019 and also director of Sanction and Victim Policy at the Ministry of Justice and Security. Before that, he was director of Financial and Economic Affairs at the same ministry. He previously held various management positions, including deputy director of Public Transport and Rail at the then Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment.

Eric Bezem studied Business Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam and followed a postgraduate course at Nyenrode Business University. In 2019 he followed the TMG Talent Development Programme.

This appointment was made on the basis of the procedure for the top management group of the General Administrative Service.
