Application period for compensation for high energy prices for households with block connections extended | News item

The application period for the Temporary Allowance for Block Connections will be extended by one month until October 31, 2023. This scheme is intended to help households with a collective heat or electricity connection (block connection) with the high energy costs in 2023. These households often do not benefit or insufficiently benefit from the price ceiling for energy. With the extension, the government wants to enable as many people as possible to make use of the scheme.

Apply for compensation

The scheme applies to both independent residential units, such as an apartment that uses collective heat through an Owners’ Association (VVE), and non-self-contained residential units, such as a room in a student house or residential care initiative.

Households with a block connection do not apply for the support themselves. This is done by the person who has concluded the contract with the energy supplier. In many cases this is the landlord or the homeowners’ association. The applicant then offsets the compensation against the energy costs of residents. The final extension of the application period will be published in the Government Gazette before September 30.
