At the Apple Keynote 2022, the rumors about a new Apple Watch model for extreme sports have now been confirmed. With the Apple Watch Ultra, the American company brings a smartwatch for every weather and every sport.
At the September event, Apple introduced a completely new smartwatch series. This is not called “Pro”, as first assumed. Instead, the smart watch, which is definitely aimed at fans of outdoor sports, is now called the Apple Watch Ultra.

Apple Watch Ultra for extreme sports
While the Watch SE is the entry-level model and the Series 8 is the common version, the Apple Watch Ultra is now the sporty addition to the Apple smartwatch family. The name says it all: from diving to extreme weather, the smart watch should be able to withstand everything. This is reflected in both the functionality and the look.
Thanks to a titanium case – the Series 8, on the other hand, is made of aluminum and stainless steel as usual – the Watch Ultra is particularly robust. In addition, Apple emphasizes that some completely recycled materials are used.
The functions of the smart watch
As is the Apple Watch 8 coming the Ultra with new temperature sensors and crash detection. The temperature sensors measure directly on the skin and on the display to rule out fluctuations. Thanks to the measurements, the female cycle can also be understood more precisely. A motion sensor and other built-in features also detect an accident and automatically alert the emergency service and an emergency contact.
The Apple Watch Ultra also comes with an ECG function for an accurate measurement of the heartbeat. The smartwatch also has a special night mode; the brightness here is 1600 to a maximum of 2000 nits. Thanks to dual-frequency GPS, extremely precise localization is also possible.
In addition to the usual buttons, the Watch Ultra also has an additional action button on the side. This can be booked freely. According to Apple, the smartwatch can also be operated with gloved hands. Compared to the basic model, the battery life is also longer at 36 hours. With the special energy-saving mode, which restricts less important functions, it should even be possible to run for 60 hours.
Price and availability of the Apple Watch Ultra
The new smartwatch comes with a 49 mm case. In the US, the Apple Watch Ultra starts at $799. In Europe, on the other hand, it costs significantly more at 999 euros. The smartwatch will then be available from September 23rd.
