Apple shares lose before the market: Apple could shift production of AirPods from China to India

In addition to the supply chain problems, the increasing tensions between China and the USA were also a reason for the considerations, the Japanese business newspaper “Nikkei” reported on Wednesday (local time), citing people familiar with the matter. The Apple supplier Foxconn should plan to first relocate the Beats models and possibly also the AirPods series to India.

According to Nikkei, AirPods were one of the first products to be manufactured outside of China as a result of the trade war with the United States. At that time, the contract went to Vietnam. More than 70 million pairs are expected to be shipped each year. That would make the product line the second most important product in terms of shipments, right after the iPhone, which accounts for the lion’s share of sales. The latest iPhone range is already being manufactured in India.

Apple shares are temporarily down 0.86 percent at $144.84 in premarket NASDAQ trading.
