WWDC 2026: Apple announces conference for June 8th

Apple announced the date for this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference in a press release on March 23, 2026. The conference will take place from June 8th to 12th, 2026 and will be broadcast online. Additionally, developers and students can attend an on-site event at Apple Park in Cupertino on opening day, June 8th. The event begins with the keynote and State of the Union platforms, followed by over 100 video sessions and interactive workshops throughout the week.

In the press release, Apple said WWDC 2026 will showcase news across all Apple platforms, including advances in artificial intelligence and new software and developer tools. Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, spoke of a week that celebrates technology, innovation and collaboration.

Siri reboot at the core of iOS 27

The most important innovation of the conference is likely to be the presentation of a fundamentally revised Siri. As Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported on March 24, 2026, Apple is testing a standalone Siri app as well as a new “Ask Siri” feature that will be integrated system-wide into Apple’s software. Siri is intended to transform from a classic voice assistant into an AI agent with deep integration into all applications. According to Bloomberg, the new version of Siri will be able to control apps, perform tasks using personal data from emails, messages and notes, and provide more detailed responses from the web.

According to Bloomberg, the standalone Siri app will have a chat-like format that is reminiscent of Apple’s Messages app. Users could search through previous conversations with Siri, start new chats, switch between voice and text mode and upload documents or photos for analysis. Gurman also reported that Apple is testing new design variations for Siri, including placement in the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen. Spotlight Search on iPhone could be replaced by Siri to give the assistant access to more data sources. In addition, integrated apps should have an “Ask Siri” switch in their menus, which users can use to directly access information about highlighted text or access related emails.

Why the Siri overhaul is strategically crucial for Apple

Siri’s rebranding comes at a time when Apple is lagging behind rivals like OpenAI, Alphabet and Samsung in AI-powered assistants. Apple had already announced the revision of Siri in 2024, but repeatedly postponed several planned functions. As Bloomberg reported on March 9, 2026, other Apple products are also waiting for the new Siri: a planned smart home hub, new HomePod models and a new Apple TV will only come onto the market after the revised Siri version has been completed.

In addition to iOS 27 and macOS 27, updates for iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS are also expected to be presented at WWDC. It remains to be seen whether Apple will also announce new hardware. In the weeks leading up to the conference, the company had already introduced a number of iterative hardware updates, including the MacBook Neo, new MacBook Pro models with M5 chips, an updated Studio Display and new AirPods Max.
