Apple completes migration of Documents and Data to iCloud Drive

iCloud Documents and Data

The online storage “iCloud Documents and Data” was introduced around eight years ago. The service was used, among other things, for document synchronization. However, Apple announced that this is now discontinued. Still, users don’t have to worry because the data has just been migrated to iCloud Drive.

Apple announced a long time ago that “iCloud Documents and Data” would be discontinued. Instead, iCloud Drive will now serve as the successor. However, the data from the former service is by no means lost. All you have to do is enable iCloud Drive if you haven’t already. The Cupertino-based company reports this on its support page.

Activate iCloud Drive easily

Activating iCloud is basically done quickly. This works with just a few clicks on both the Mac and the iPhone or iPad. So let’s start with the Mac first:

  1. In the first step, click on the Apple menu (apple icon).
  2. Then you have to go to the system settings.
  3. Here you go to “Apple ID”. If you do not see this, you must first log in with your access data.
  4. Once you are in Apple ID, look for “iCloud Drive”. You have to tick the box there.

iCloud Drive can also be activated on the iPhone or iPad in no time at all. For this you have to proceed as follows:

  1. First go to the settings of your device.
  2. Then tap your name at the top. You may need to sign in with your Apple ID credentials.
  3. In the next step, tap on the item “iCloud”.
  4. Finally, find “iCloud Drive” and enable the slider.

Don’t confuse cloud storage

You’ve probably encountered “iCloud” and “iCloud Drive” all the time while activating. Even if the two names sound similar, there are differences. The former is an online storage space that only has a limited capacity (5 gigabytes) free of charge. The latter, on the other hand, is the software and therefore also part of the iCloud. This will give you access to the data stored in iCloud.
