Apple Amazon Prime Day 2.0 deals: Are they worth it?

This year, Amazon is hosting a second Prime Day for the first time. There are also offers for the iPhone and the Apple Watch. But are they worth it?

The current Prime Day offers on Amazon went live today. Prime customers have until tomorrow at 11:59 p.m. to browse for bargains in the online shop. While the advance offers mainly included Amazon’s own products and were somewhat disappointing overall, the Apple bargain category is currently the most eye-catching. TECHBOOK reveals which Apple devices Amazon is offering cheaper on Prime Day and whether the offers are worthwhile.

Apple iPhone 12 and 13 cheaper for Amazon Prime Day

Let’s start with the iPhones. Here Amazon offers several models from the 12 and 13 generation cheaper. The selection ranges from the compact mini model to the large iPhone Pro Max. What is striking, however, is that Amazon is concentrating on the versions with a lot of memory for Prime Day. If you want to save and if 128 GB is enough, you should look elsewhere.

iPhone 12 mini 256GB for 679 euros

Apple introduced the iPhone 12 mini in September 2020, now it’s part of Amazon Prime Day. The smartphone costs 679 euros and is therefore slightly cheaper than other providers. The prices here are usually just under 700 euros, if you exclude the occasional eBay offer. Incidentally, the iPhone 12 mini is no longer available from Apple itself, the provider only offers the iPhone 12.

The iPhone 12 Mini is the most compact model in the series with its 5.4-inch OLED display. It has 256 GB of storage in the offered version and is powered by the Apple A14 Bionic. Two 12-megapixel cameras (wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle) are available on the back for photos. It has already received the update to the current iOS 16.

iPhone 12 Pro 512GB for 1269 euros

Also from 2020 is the Apple iPhone 12 Pro, which Amazon is offering in the 512 GB version for Prime Day for 1269 euros. Compared to the Mini, however, there is not such a clear bargain here. At Euronics, for example, the Apple smartphone is available for 1299 euros – 30 euros more than Amazon charges on Prime Day. Kaufland even sells the iPhone 12 Pro with 512 GB of memory for 1253.90 euros and is therefore cheaper than Amazon.

With its 6.1-inch display, the Pro model is larger than the Mini but has the same processor. It comes with an additional telephoto camera, also with 12 megapixels. All information about the iPhone 12 and its different models can be found in our large overview article.

Not only because of the lower price from other sellers, the offer of the iPhone 12 Pro for Amazon Prime Day is not worthwhile. Because for less money, buyers can even get a more up-to-date model here.

iPhone 13 Pro with different amounts of memory from 1259 euros

We’re talking about the iPhone 13 Pro from the previous year, which was recently replaced by the iPhone 14 series. This model is even cheaper than the Apple iPhone 12 Pro on Amazon Prime Day. Customers have to pay 1259 euros for the golden version with 512 GB. Amazon is currently offering the iPhone 13 Pro at the cheapest price. The version with 1 TB (terabyte) of memory, on the other hand, is available for 1469 euros, although Ebay can top this price with 1389 euros.

Like the 12, the iPhone 13 Pro also offers a display diagonal of 6.1 inches, but is delivered with the newer A15 processor. Owners will also find a refresh rate of 120 Hz – Apple calls it ProMotion -, WiFi 6 and 5G. Apple has also installed three 12-megapixel sensors (wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto) in the Pro models.

iPhone 13 Pro Max with 1 TB for 1549 euros

The absolute top model from the previous year is the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, which Amazon is also offering at a lower price as part of Prime Day. The 1 TB version is available for 1549 euros, the currently cheapest price. This version originally cost 1829 euros.

Like the iPhone 13 Pro, the Pro Max also has a so-called LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) display, which allows the frame rate to be dynamically changed between 10 Hz and 120 Hz. Apple calls this technology ProMotion. It can adapt the frame rate to the respective screen content, which also saves energy. At 6.7 inches, it is the largest iPhone in the range. You can read more details about the equipment in our news about the iPhone 13.

Apple Watch cheaper for Amazon Prime Day

Amazon is also offering some of Apple’s smartwatches cheaper on Prime Day. However, this is not the current Apple Watch 8, but its predecessor. Due to the different designs, sizes and bracelets, a price comparison is quite difficult here. However, we made some samples and compared them with the prices listed on the price comparison site Idealo.

Apple Watch 7 45mm with LTE for 439 euros

The Apple Watch 7 is from 2021 and in this version offers a 45 mm aluminum case as well as GPS and LTE. It can therefore also be used independently of the smartphone for telephoning. Amazon charges 439 euros for the Apple Watch on Prime Day – 60 euros less than the next cheapest provider. The Apple Watch can be updated to the current watchOS and charged using the magnetic charging cable that is included in the scope of delivery.

Compared to the Series 6, the Apple Watch 7 offers 20 percent more display area, with the bezels shrunk by 40 percent to just 1.7 mm. Apple has integrated the touch sensor into the OLED panel, which reduces the display thickness. In addition, thanks to the IP6X rating, the smartwatch is more resistant than its predecessors. The Apple Watch Series 7 comes in five colors for the aluminum variant: Green, Blue, (PRODUCT)Red, Starlight and Midnight. Read more about the Apple Smartwatch here.

Apple Watch SE with LTE for 349 euros

The Apple Watch SE from 2021 is even cheaper. It is also available in the LTE version for 349 euros on Prime Day. Some less and less well-known dealers offer the watch a few euros cheaper than Amazon. However, the savings here are a maximum of 1.79 euros, which is not really worth it. The Apple Watch SE is a budget version of the smartwatch.

Apple Watch 6 in stainless steel and with LTE for 509 euros

The stainless steel version of the Apple Watch is more robust, elegant and expensive. Amazon is offering this for Prime Day for the Apple Watch 6 for 509 euros. The watch is from 2020, so it is a bit older. The model comes with GPS and LTE. The next cheapest dealer is Otto, who sells the watch for 579.99 euros – the Amazon offer can therefore convince in terms of price. However, since the retailer has also reduced the predecessor and is even offering it cheaper, we recommend going for the newer Apple Watch 7.
