In -house Marvin Obuz was unable to assert himself at 1. FC Köln. In summer there is a separation – and apparently a return to the old place of work.
According to the “WAZ”, Marvin Obuz from 1. FC Köln is about to return to third division Rot-Weiss Essen. A deal between the two clubs is “very close”, it says on Monday.
So RWE, the player and his consultant have been in contact for weeks, the negotiations have now been allegedly finalized. Obuz is not said to have had any other concrete offers, such as promoted and cup finalists Arminia Bielefeld. Dynamo Dresden was recently associated with the Cologne team. The regional newspaper is now said to have been in contact with clubs in Austria and Switzerland.
How much red and white food is ready to pay for the wing striker does not show from the report. Just so much: The third division team “stretched very much for his desired player”. After all, no transfer fee is due, since Obuz ‘contract with the cathedral towns on June 30th expires.
Obuz misses breakthrough at 1. FC Köln
The 23-year-old Marvin Obuz spent his entire youth at the 1st FC Köln, debut in the 2021/22 season with the professionals in the DFB Cup. Initially parked in the regional league team of the cathedral club, the right foot was awarded to the then second division team Holstein Kiel in the following game season. But even in the north, the attacker ultimately played more games for the second team than for the professionals.
What followed was a loan business that should pay off for everyone involved: third division Rot-Weiss Essen, the Cologne talent grabbed in the 2023/24 season. He immediately played 34 league games on Hafenstrasse, in which he scored seven goals. In addition, a connection with the club grew, which was now apparently decisive for the change.
After his return to Cologne, Marvin Obuz only remained the role of a reservist in the past season. In total he came to six competitive games, but he was not even appointed to the starting eleven.
