TRT announced that the announcer who confused the teams in the Iran-New Zealand World Cup match has withdrawn from the broadcast team and will not continue broadcasting the tournament.

In the statement, it was said, “The mistake made in the narration of the Iran-New Zealand match played at 04.00 this morning in the 2026 FIFA World Cup is unacceptable in terms of TRT broadcasting standards.

We apologize to our viewers and the public for this mistake.

Necessary administrative and inspection processes were initiated immediately regarding this error, which is incompatible with TRT Spor’s years of broadcasting knowledge, experience and understanding of quality. At the end of the process, the necessary procedures will be fully implemented.

The announcer in question has been withdrawn from the World Cup broadcast team in the USA as part of the review process and will not continue broadcasting the tournament.

It is unacceptable for TRT that a name with more than 30 years of experience in sports broadcasting makes such a mistake.

TRT does not condone any practices contrary to broadcasting standards in national and international organizations that reach millions of viewers.

It is announced to the public with respect.”
