The release includes 38 tracks that were previously only available at the merch stand during his tours.
There’s news from Aphex Twin. So basically. Because Richard David James, as his real name is, surprisingly released a compilation on December 17th containing 38 pieces that were previously only distributed over six vinyl releases at the merch stand at his live gigs in There was London, Barcelona, Manchester and Houston to shop. The title of the publication is therefore fitting: MUSIC FROM THE MERCH DESK (2016-2023).
With a wink
Aphex Twin presents the compilation’s cover artwork several times – his faces are combined with some shiny golden typography. The overall look: More humorous and trashy than anything else. The release is only available for streaming.
Working on your own legacy
There are no new tracks from the 53-year-old on the spontaneous release, but that seems to be exactly the Irish-British musician’s thing. Most recently, he released an expanded edition of his record SELECTED AMBIENT WORKS VOLUME II in the summer – after all, it will celebrate its 30th birthday in 2024.
