The home of mayor Annemarie Penn-te Strake of Maastricht has been defaced. On King’s Night, slogans were raised against the monarchy. ‘Fuck the king’ and ‘Fuck your monarchy’ it says on the side of the house.
It was an unpleasant surprise for Mayor Penn Wednesday morning. Not that she’d seen it herself. A reporter from the NOS Radio 1 Journaal points out the graffiti to the mayor.

Penn reacts quite lightly to the daub. “There’s a lot of graffiti in our city. We know it’s there.” Mayor Penn won’t let the graffiti ruin her day. “This is also our society. It’s a bit part of it.”
According to a reporter, several houses towards the Vrijthof have been defaced with similar slogans.
Demonstration
The Republic, an association of activists against the monarchy, will demonstrate on the King’s Day route in Maastricht on Wednesday. After some disagreements between the association and the municipality, that is the appropriate place on Het Bat.
In recent days there was still some uncertainty about the demonstration site of the Republic. The organization did not want to accept the place designated by the municipality.
