After the elections, the designated mayor has already taken the oath at the installation meeting of the city council, including Anthony Dumarey. To make everything official, a mayor must also take the oath with the governor. This is only possible after it has been appointed by – in this case – Minister Hilde Crevits.
“Each file is assessed one by one on the basis of the necessary documents and advice,” says Crevits. She now judges that Dumarey is not the right person to take the lead over the city of Oudenburg. She follows the negative advice that Governor Carl Decaluwé has given. “The governor’s advice literally states that the designated mayor has insufficient moral authority to lead the city with competence.”
It is the only negative advice that a governor has given about a mayor, because there are still people against whom there is a judicial investigation.
