With the sensational win of the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt secured the Champions League ticket for the coming season. BVB loan Ansgar Knauff is also there – and with ambitious goals.
With his goals against FC Barcelona and West Ham United in the knockout stages of the competition, Ansgar Knauff was instrumental in Eintracht Frankfurt progressing to the Europa League final in Seville, where they beat Glasgow Rangers on penalties.
After the 20-year-old had recently made it clear that he wanted to fulfill his loan contract in the Main metropolis, which was valid until the summer of 2023, Knauff said to “sports1” now ambitious goals for Frankfurt’s first year in the Champions League.
Champions League “a giant step” for Eintracht Frankfurt
“It’s another giant step for us, for me personally, for the club. This is the club’s first time playing in the Champions League. There’s something in it again that it can be a season as eventful as this one,” the winger is optimistic.
The U21 international is looking forward to “whatever comes next” with Eintracht, for whom he has played 19 competitive games and scored three goals.
Return to BVB not an issue for Ansgar Knauff
The native of Göttingen reaffirmed that he wanted to fulfill his current loan contract with the Hessians.
Recently there had been speculation about a premature return to BVB after his sponsor Edin Terzic took over as head coach there again.
“I’m on loan for a year and a half, after that I still have a year’s contract in Dortmund. That’s the status, I’m not thinking about anything else,” emphasized Knauff.
The youngster is “extremely looking forward to next year” when the SBU will start in the Supercup against Real Madrid and in the group stage of the premier class: “Of course, these are big events where we can be as successful as possible want to be,” said Knauff self-confidently.
