Another setback for Joan Mir

The Italian Grand Prix in Mugello ended prematurely for Honda works driver Joan Mir. After a crash in Friday’s second practice session, the Spaniard will miss the rest of the weekend in Tuscany.

“Joan Mir and the Repsol Honda team have decided to forego the rest of the weekend due to the injury to his right hand that he sustained in a crash halfway through practice two,” the Honda factory team announced on Friday evening .

The start of the Mugello weekend was already bumpy for Mir. In the first practice, the world champion of the 2020 MotoGP season did not get past P20. Joan Mir lost 1.493 seconds to the best time set by Ducati rider Alex Marquez.

In the second practice Mir was listed on P23. After twelve laps, Mir’s session was over. The fall in practice two was another setback for the newcomer to the Repsol Honda team. The past weekends have already been marked by falls.

That’s why Mir is only P21 in the drivers’ standings. The Spanish Honda driver hasn’t finished in the points since the season opener in Portimao. Due to the withdrawal in Mugello, there will be no further points at the sixth Grand Prix weekend of the current MotoGP season.
