Another mess at Ferrari: mechanics forget tire at pit stop Carlos Sainz | formula 1

The Italian racing stable Ferrari made another blunder during the Dutch GP in Zandvoort. When Spaniard Carlos Sainz made his first pit stop after 14 of the 72 laps, only three new tires were ready. Sainz had to wait a long time for the left rear tire to come out of the pit box.

The Spaniard was in third place behind the leading Max Verstappen and his teammate Charles Leclerc, but fell back to eleventh due to his long pit stop. Ferrari has a fast car this season that can in principle compete for the victories, but partly due to tactical blunders and technical problems, Leclerc and Sainz are already well behind Verstappen in the World Cup standings.

Sergio Pérez, Verstappen’s Mexican teammate, also suffered from the fumbling at Ferrari during the Sainz pit stop. Pérez entered the pits at the same time as the Spaniard. When he accelerated again after his tire change at the Red Bull pit box, he ran over a wheelgun that the Ferrari mechanics at the pit box had not put aside before. Pérez could not avoid the device that loosens and tightens the wheel nuts. Race officials said they would look into the incident after the race.

A mess, that’s how Sainz described his race. ,,It was a mess, I had problems the whole race,’ Sainz grumbled. “First with that confusing pit stop, then with the possible overtaking under a yellow flag and finally with a time penalty.”

Sainz got it because, according to the stewards, he caused an unsafe situation in the pit lane after a tire change. Fernando Alonso (Alpine) had to brake hard when Sainz pulled back into the pit lane just ahead of him, heading for the exit. ,,It was not unsafe, it all happened correctly. The only problem was that I had to brake hard not to kill a McLaren mechanic,” Sainz said of the situation in the tight pit lane in Zandvoort. ,,But because I avoided a collision, they gave me a penalty. I find that very frustrating and I’m going to talk to the FIA about it now because I don’t understand.”
