The municipality of Hoogeveen closed a house on Veenluydenstraat in Hoogeveen because there was illegal prostitution. The house will be locked and sealed for three months.
As part of the Drenthe approach to undermining, the police and the municipality are actively investigating illegal prostitution.
At the beginning of February 2026, the mayor closed a terraced house on Rozenstraat in Hoogeveen for three months due to illegal prostitution. The closure is based on Article 174a of the Municipalities Act.
According to Mayor Martijn Breukelman, “illegal prostitution increases the risk of involvement in human trafficking. Because it happens without supervision, there is a risk of violence, insecurity and health risks.”
