“He would have laughed at himself,” says Annemieke Posthuma if she thinks about what her deceased father would think that she is now walking through the neighborhood with his old Vissestekstek cart. He now serves as a … waste cart. Together with Buren in Palenstein, she cleans up the neighborhood with it.

Local residents meet once a month for a large cleaning campaign in the neighborhood. Cigarette butts, empty cans and other junk end up in the waste cart of Annemieke. Why? Annemieke and her neighbors Vincent Krans, José Bontje, Wim Borst and more are annoyed by green and yellow on the mess on the street.

Unique of its kind

At first glance it seems like an old cup that is ripe for the demolition. But Annemieke has carefully thought about the design and the parts for her waste transport cart. “In the beginning we all walked with waste pegs and a garbage bag through the neighborhood,” says the furniture maker. “It seemed useful to have your hands free and to get rid of everything in one place.” So she went into her workshop and went to work with old materials.

Tribute to my father

Annemiekes Vader used for years a steam cart with which he transported his fishing case and rods. After his death, the cart was placed at Annemieke. “I used it as a basis for my waste cart. I built a frame with pallethout with a ring for the garbage bag on top. In the rusted look, my father stuck his rods, but I put the waste squeezer in it. “

On the side she hung a dustpan and can, a bag for plastic waste and a garbage bag for empty bottles and cans. “The scoop cart is a tribute to my father. I miss him. “

Buttock champion

In an app group, 22 residents communicate with each other or they come to the monthly clean -up evening. “More and more people are helping to get litter,” says Annemieke. “Everyone uses his or her talent. That’s what they call Wim the butt champion. He always knows how to pick one out somewhere. ”Local residents are happy with the enthusiastic club cleaners. “We regularly get positive reactions.”

Cozy

In addition to clean streets, the clean -up actions of the litter brigade also ensure a lot of fun in the neighborhood. “With the five of us we started the adoption garden a few years ago,” says Annemieke. The one hoe and removes weeds, the other prunes or plants new plants. In between eat, chat or drink together. Sometimes we do fun activities with each other such as making Christmas pieces or a sales market in the garage of a resident here. Oh yes, and don’t forget the Tai-Chi lessons on the street next to the neighborhood garden. It’s just a nice neighborhood. ”
