The victory was a consolation for Worst, who was unable to travel to the United States for the World Cup due to a positive corona test. At the past two World Cups, she had been good for silver twice. Many World Cup participants, such as world champion Marianne Vos, were missing in the Flemish Maldegem. For Worst it was her second win of the season. She previously won the Koksijde World Cup.
