A new corona infection has been confirmed in the Finnish women’s national football team. Helmarit announced on Wednesday that the Central defender Anna Westerlund has given a positive coronavirus sample.

All team members were tested on Wednesday morning. There were no other positive corona test results.

Earlier, a credit defender was found to be infected with the coronavirus Tuija Hyyryne and by a person belonging to the team who is not a player. Hyyrynen was not in the lineup on Tuesday, when Helmarit suffered a 0-1 loss to Denmark.

– When the virus is on the move, it is completely impossible to avoid it. We tightened the measures already at the point when the team’s background person was diagnosed with an infection (Sunday), the team’s doctor Pippa Laukka commented on Monday after Hyyrynen’s infection was confirmed.

It is not known whether Hyyrynen will get on the field for the next match. What is more obvious is that the key player’s corona test on Wednesday was negative.

Finland plays next time on Saturday, when it faces Germany in its last match of the group stage.

Continuing dreams look weak, as Helmarit is last in its group with two losses.
