The old log house and country milieu are part of the editor, coach Anna Perhon mental landscape.

Four years ago, he bought a house from Ypäjä on the edge of the same field, which he had watched all his childhood and youth. Nowadays, the fields are cultivated by Perho’s brother, from whom the house was also bought.

Until then, Perho and her husband’s biggest renovation had been painting the cupboard.

– My brother did not deceive us. We knew what we were buying. But we didn’t understand what we bought, Perho laughs.

He believes that many of his friends thought that what was wrong with that. Was it all messed up?

Perho has always been interested in old buildings, as he has lived in one as a child.

For ten years, Perho lived in a new detached house, which ultimately did not interest him at all.

– Ironically, we are here now. This immediately felt right.

The difference to previous detached house living is that Ypäjä is not lived everyday. Arki is in Helsinki, where Perho lives with her husband in an apartment building.

Anna Perho states that she is one of the lucky ones who got to spend fairy-tale childhood Christmases. The large hall of the 19th-century childhood home (still in its original condition) was opened and heated for Christmas. The whole big family gathered there to celebrate Christmas together.

In Perho’s memories, the tables were filled with traditional Christmas dishes – and they still do that when the family gathers in the same hall.

Perho’s fondest Christmas memories are the Christmas candies made together with her mother. They were little mint flavored nuggets covered in melted chocolate.
