Polish media report that the three-time Olympic winner of the hammer throw Anita Wlodarczyk has been injured in a clash with a car thief.

Wlodarczyk’s injury was commented on by the vice-president of the Polish Athletics Association Sebastian Chmara.

– Anita was training on Thursday until someone stole her car. The thief left the car, but Anita went after him and caught him.

“The thief barely believed the woman could catch him and that the hammer thrower would be so fast,” Chmara said.

According to Chmara, Wlodarczyk had started to feel pain in his leg after the police had taken notice of the thief.

– Anita is waiting for the results of the magnetic pictures taken on Friday. We hope Anita recovers as soon as possible.

In addition to Olympic victories, the 36-year-old Wlodarczyk has won four World Championship golds and four European Championship golds. She has also thrown a women’s hammer ME score of 82.98.

Wlodarczyk is also scheduled to compete in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku on Tuesday.
