“What a hell, XXL distribution center in Nuenen no!”, There is a display on the signs. It should be clear: the local residents around Eeneind-West in Nuenen find the plan of the municipality for a large distribution center nothing. It is 44 football fields, with 1300 trucks per day. The municipality has already agreed, but the residents are not nearly yet.
“It is already extremely busy and that place is terrible,” says a demonstrator. The field in Nuenen, where the distribution center should be, is packed with local residents. They have all made their own protest board, some for the first time in their lives. “It’s just very high, so I hope it makes sense,” says a lady during her debut.
The people are mainly concerned with the amount of traffic. The roads are already very busy, let alone if hundreds of trucks still have to drive over it. “The fire brigade can no longer even get through. It’s just about the money.”
“Who comes up with something like that? It’s a big shame.”
That is the great specter of the local residents. Huge traffic infarctions, emergency services that no longer get through and a huge, capitalist distribution blade in their backyard. “Who comes up with something like that? It’s a big shame,” says a neighbor.
The angry neighbors are supported by a different angry neighbor. Willemijn Nieuwenhuis has pushed himself forward as a cart -stretcher. She joined the club a little later, because in the first instance sentiment mainly lived in Geldrop. But because Nuenen is also concerned about the center, it now transcends the municipal level. And that ensures that Willemijn sees plenty of opportunities.
“We will have to go to court and the province will have to do something with it. Those are the two routes now. The right will prevail,” she says determined. The question is only when.
