“In football there is no room for racism or any form of discrimination,” the chairman of FIFA told the ANP. “The performance of Antoine on the field, despite all the setbacks, are a powerful example for players worldwide.”

Semenyo scored twice for Bournemouth after he was racist after a throw -in. “We are committed to being respected and protected, and that the organizers of the competition and justice take appropriate measures,” said Infantino.

“The FIFA is right behind Antoine and we will continue to support him, Bournemouth and the Premier League to ensure that powerful means are used and that measures are being taken to ban racism and discrimination from our sport.”

The Liverpool police have now arrested a 47-year-old man who is suspected of having treated Semenyo racistly.
