Dennis Schröder was at the center of an unusual scene on Friday during his Cleveland Cavaliers’ game against his former team, the Detroit Pistons (119:122 after OT). A fan upset the DBB star and then had to leave the Little Caesars Arena.
In the middle of the final period, with Cleveland still leading 98-92, Schröder stopped the game and angrily pointed out a Pistons fan sitting in the front row. The viewer is said to have badly insulted the Braunschweig native.
Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff, who knows Schröder well from his five-month time in Detroit, then stepped in to appease the German. “Tell me what he said, tell me what he said,” he said to his ex-player.
After the two had exchanged ideas, they approached the referees together and described the incident. The consequence: The fan was escorted out of the hall by security staff and was no longer allowed to witness the Pistons’ dramatic overtime victory live.
In addition to the fan anger and the bitter Cavs bankruptcy, the evening was anything but ideal for Schröder on an individual level. The 32-year-old point guard only managed 12 points with a poor shooting rate of 4 out of 15 (26.7 percent) from the field. There were also 9 assists and 1 rebound.
