Angelina and Stefano rushed into the kitchen and once again made the basis for their recipe thought out. With a cool box they jumped into the car to arrive just in time in Gorinchem. “The stress was good, but we had made it.”
In a soup pot
Every year the Association of Artisan Ice Creators will come up with a different ice cream flavor during the Bakkersvak & IJsvak trade fair. This year was the assignment: the tastiest caramel ice cream. Angelina and Stefano dived their ice cream kitchen where they caramelized in a soup pan. They added cream and butter. “The challenge was mainly in finding the right cooking time and temperature,” says Stefano.
Test, test, test
Angelina and Stefano did not want to leave anything to chance. “We wanted to make the caramel flavor pop out,” says Stefano. In between the companies, brother and sister always tried a new variant. “We let family, friends and regular customers taste and went back into the kitchen with their comments. We made thirty variants. “

On the morning of the game, Angelina had twenty minutes to show her ice cream management arts to the professional jury. On a stage she put the milk base and caramel paste in an Italian ice machine. After twelve minutes she turned the caramel ice off and cleaned the ice machine. Despite the stress earlier that morning, Angelina was ready well in time. The professional jury leaned over the twenty caramel ice creams and tasted on it.
Manifest
Stefano and Angelina also tasted all entries, but they were convinced: their caramel ice tasted best. But whether the jury also thought about it that way … The numbers 2 and 3 were on stage at the presentation of the Golden Ice Spatel. Angelina: “I just said loud winning, winning, winning. With that I wanted to manifest first place. But when my name was mentioned by the jury, I shouted it from joy. All our energy and effort were rewarded with the cup. We are very proud. ”

The IJsvak competitions took place during the Bakkersvak & IJsvak trade fair on 9, 10 and 11 March 2025 in Evenementenhal Gorinchem. Here the live competitions took place for the Golden Ice Spatel (best ice cream maker) and the Golden IJs Creation. The professional jury assessed the preparation, taste, structure, mouthfeel, color and scent of the ice, and hygiene.
On 11 March, in addition to the Golden Ice Spatel and the Golden IJs Creation, the nominees of ‘The Ice Shared of the Year’ were also announced. The result will follow on June 18, 2025.
