Angela de Jong is completely turned off by Caroline van der Plas, especially since her participation in the celebrity crying show Het Weren 2 Fantastische Dagen. “I now think she is a shadow of herself.”
Things have gone quickly with Caroline van der Plas’ political career: a few years ago it seemed that the BBB might be able to provide the prime minister, but now the party is completely in ruins due to internal rumblings. And Caroline? He has resigned as party leader and now does schnabbles such as the celebrity crying show on SBS 6.
Refreshing
Angela de Jong thinks it’s all a shame. “When Caroline van der Plas came into the Binnenhof with that tractor, I found her very refreshing,” she says New Revu. “She stood up for the countryside, where I come from, and had a down-to-earth view of politics and the games that are played there.”
The AD opinion diva ‘really had sympathy for her’. Also for her appearance. I thought she was strong at talk show tables. She was also very popular with television editors for a few years. They saw from the viewing figures that when Caroline was there, they went up, or at least did not fall. As a result, editors also dropped their exclusivity demands from her.”
Shadow of itself
There was even an evening when Caroline was on both the RTL late talk show and Op1. “But now I think she is a shadow of herself. In talk shows she is often sulky, ill-prepared and wallows in the role of victim. It has visibly eaten at her, the past five years as party leader and MP. She is tired.”
And now? Now Caroline has slipped, Angela thinks. “I thought her participation in It were 2 fantastic days – a retarded celebrity program where they talk to each other with ‘darling’ and ‘sweetie’ – was a low point. In her good days Caroline had seen through that. She didn’t belong to that bunch at all.”
Knife in back
According to her, Caroline’s political career is over. “The fact that she so publicly stabbed Mona Keijzer in the back does not suit the open, honest, down-to-earth woman she once was at the Binnenhof. I think that the fame, the fatigue and the arenas in which she has ended up, both politically and on television, have changed her.”
“I still have great respect for the enormous amounts of work she has done in recent years, but it is very difficult to remain authentic in that world. And I think she ultimately failed to do that.”
