Angela de Jong completely finishes the Curaçao edition of Today Inside. She believes that the move of the talk show to the sunny island really adds nothing at all. “Someone else’s party!”

It is a mystery to everyone: what does the viewer gain from the fact that Today Inside is currently in Curaçao for two weeks? We have been watching exactly the same guests two evenings in a row and that makes the program more monotonous than surprising. Angela de Jong is also absolutely not enthusiastic about this staff outing by the men of VI.

Angela critical

Angela doesn’t understand. “I was watching and I wish everyone their trip to Curaçao, they should know that for themselves, but I really wondered: why? And if you do it, at least do it well. I don’t think Wilfred has ever worked as hard in his entire life to make it a success as he is now.”

She continues in the AD Media Podcast: “It had to be fun and it had to be fun, but if I understood anything because of the wind, then it was already taken away. As a viewer you kind of get the idea: nice for you, but what good is it for me? What good is it for you sitting there? Absolutely nothing!”

Nice for sponsor

According to VI, they will do more with Curaçao in the coming days, for example atmospheric images on location. “That’s nice for the sponsor, but for the viewer?” says Angela. “What I found most striking was that they had a whole discussion about RTL’s new decor and how long it took and how big they are making it at RTL.”

She continues: “That was completely ridiculed, fine, there is something in it, because I didn’t see much difference as a viewer. It’s about the content, it was said, but that also applies to VI. Don’t you just want those three guys and whether they are in Curaçao or Hilversum?”

Not urgent

VI also radiates less topicality due to its sunny location, Angela thinks. “The urgency also disappears a bit, because they are all on an island there. It felt far away and then I had the idea: do you really know what is happening in the Netherlands?”

She continues: “I think you should always think about your viewers first and foremost. The expressed message is also a bit: we are watching someone else’s party.”

Locked out

All in all, this is of no use to the viewer at all, Angela concludes. “As a viewer you really don’t buy anything for that. Then you think: hello, I feel left out.”

“No one watches VI to see a documentary about Willemstad, right? No images, no. Isn’t it just about what Johan Derksen shouts?”
