André Hazes Jr., just like Maan de Steenwinkel, wanted to take a new, deeper musical course, but he is now backing away from that. He even starts singing daddy’s songs again.
André Hazes Jr. seemed to have radically changed course: away from his father’s eternal repertoire and towards a more serious, more pop-oriented sound with more depth. No more sing-alongs, but ‘real’ music, that’s how it was presented. However, that ambitious course now appears to have been abandoned just as quickly as it was announced.
As usual
Even his old lyricist Edwin van Hoevelaak has been embraced again. “André came in and within five minutes it was back to normal, I might say,” he says Show news.
André confirms this. He says: “I found myself having a great time in the studio with the boys. Of course, something was needed, to talk and stuff.”
Edwin: “Yes, things have happened, but we already said upon arrival: ‘Guys, what is it about?’ Cross it out and we’ll go again! Something happens in every marriage, including ours, but all is forgotten and forgiven.”
Never commit
André is not completely back with his old team, he emphasizes. “Am I completely back? I’m never going to commit myself again, because I’ve seen the problems that causes. I commit myself to my wife and that’s the only thing, you know? But we do feel each other again and that’s very nice.”
The songs of the late André Hazes are also in his set list. “There was a time when I just didn’t feel it anymore. I didn’t feel my father anymore. But I have now found the folk thing again. I also notice that I enjoy doing it more and more, you know?”
Good move
Story boss Guido den Aantrekker does not understand André’s mop course. “I didn’t think it was a good move on his part at the time and this just suits him, these guys. He should keep it that way. I think it’s a bit opportunistic. If you just have a permanent writing team… I like loyalty.”
He concludes: “That is a scarce resource in showbiz. If you start doing a kind of cherry picking… I understand it, but he also has to ensure that he follows a fixed course. That he does not do this one year and the next year. He really must have a fan base.”
