Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov called on Washington to push its military potential away from Russian borders and abandon aggressive rhetoric, stressing that Russia has nowhere to retreat – NATO has crept up to Russian borders, trying to dominate on land, at sea and in the air. “We will not allow the development of events that would undermine the independence and sovereignty of the Russian Federation,” the diplomat said.

Anatoly Antonov recalled that the United States and Russia together bear a special responsibility for international peace and security. In his opinion, it is time to think about how future generations will live together, and for this very little needs to be done – respecting your neighbor, not threatening and pushing your military potential away from the Russian borders.

As reported, on January 9-10, Russian-American consultations on security guarantees were held in Geneva. Wednesday, January 12, scheduled meeting of the Russia-NATO Councilto be held in Brussels, and on January 13 – a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna.

Russian draft agreements on security guarantees that Moscow expects from the US and NATO, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced on December 17 last year. Among other things, treaties with the United States and members of the Alliance imply a refusal to expand NATO to the east, including refusal to admit Ukraine to it, as well as the introduction of restrictions on the deployment of offensive weapons, in particular nuclear ones.
