With an explosion of an electricity cabinet in an NS train between Alkmaar and Uitgeest, a person was injured on Sunday evening and three people were unwell, ANP news agency reports.

The electricity cabinet sat behind a wall in a hall of the train. Part of the wall jumped away due to the explosion. One of the passengers ran a head wound and had to go to the hospital. Later, three others were unwell because of the smoke released.

Research is being done into how the explosion could have happened.

Evacuation trains

After the incident, the train came to a halt at Castricum and the electricity was removed from the train. In the end, all approximately 650 passengers with evacuation trains were brought to Alkmaar. A spokesperson for the NS calls the opposite ANP “very much to that travelers had to experience this”.

Due to the incident, the train traffic between Alkmaar and Uitgeest stopped for a few hours on Sunday evening, but all the restrictions were over at 11 p.m.
