The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a man for alleged terrorist indoctrination with the intention of committing an attack in Catalonia this Friday in Empuriabrava (Girona).

In a statement on Monday, the Catalan police have stressed that “at no time has there been a risk to the public”.

The man remains admitted to a Foreigners Internment Center (Cie) pending an expulsion process for national security.

The detainee allegedly defended jihadist ideological postulates and carried out “an intense process of mass dissemination of content” to people who were encouraged to commit violent actions; she also adopted a more aggressive attitude and changed his physical appearance.

The investigation began in May by identifying a man who had purchased a simulated firearm and various white weapons, as well as a grenade from the civil war.

The investigation has been coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court and supervised by the Central Court of Instruction number 1 of Madrid.

The Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, has warned that “the terrorist threat continues throughout Europe“, before which he has assured that all the necessary resources will be allocated to protect citizens, and has congratulated the Mossos for their work.
