1. The film world
In April 2024, “Back to Black” came into cinemas. Since Amy Winehouses drug death on July 23, 2011, various documentaries have been shot about her, the most prominent “Amy” of Asif Kapadia 2015. Green light for an official biopic only gave their estate administrators in 2018. The executing team was directed by British popicons: Sam Taylor-Johnson (“Nowher Boy”, ” “Fifty Stades of Gray”), the script came from Matt Greenhalgh (“Control”, “Nowhere Boy”). Winehouse was played and sung by 28-year-old Marisa Abela-like Winehouse Jewish descent. After a supporting role in “Barbie”, this may have been her breakthrough.
2. The rap inspiration
Not least because of her addiction, the jazz and soul superstar also became a legend in hip-hop: Eminem and Nicki Minaj already dropped their name during his lifetime, since then Logic, Future, Kreayshawn, XXXTETACION, Juice Wrld and Lil Wayne followed. In 2019, a feature between her and NAS even appeared posthumously.
3. The samples
Your music is also used: the website whosampled.com lists 83 samples, 150 cover versions and 29 remixes of your songs, and that only includes the officially published. Among other things, Dua Lipa, Paolo Nutini, Girls Aloud, Lightspeed Champion, The Cribs, Arctic Monkeys, the “Glee” cast, Sam Smith and Nana Mouskouri recorded a song from her. In 2023, Grime-Rapper Skepta “Tears Dry on Their Own” suddenly sampled for his banger “Can’t Play Myself (A Tribute to Amy)”.
4. The exhibitions
As an artist, Winehouse itself became a subject of art: in 2020 the exhibition “Beyond Black – The Style of Amy Winehouse” opened in Los Angeles. Personal pieces from it were auctioned a year later for over three million British pounds in favor of the Amy Winehouse Foundation and again objects of other displays: followed by another large exhibition in the London Design Museum. Even the Bikini Art Museum in Bad Rappenau im Kraichgau showed “15 original clothing of the singer, including bikinis” in 2023.
5. The books
Anyone who prefers to leaf instead, uh, flipped off: Mitch with Winehouse did not bring out the book “Amy: My Daughter” year after the death of his daughter, in 2015 by mother Janis Seaton “Loving Amy: A Mother’s Story”. In August 2023, Vati put on: “In Her Own Words” gathered, among other things, personal diary entries from Amy. A schelm who thinks of sale here!
6. The memories
If the pop cultural impact appears more interesting than the private: in 2021 Winehouses stylist Naomi Parry in “Beyond Black” Personal stories and memories of her friend of Ronnie Spector, Vivienne Westwood, Bryan Adams, Little Simz and The-Libertines Carl Barât.
7. The Liz
Again hip -hop: the Frankfurt rapper Liz called her third album Amy Winehouze in early 2024 – as a bow and because she sees parallels. Both, she says, had to work out their position in the male -dominated industry as women.
8. The Bob Dylan
Speaking of men: 2017 called Bob Dylan she “The Last Real Individualist Around”, in 2023 his fan magazine “Rolling Stone” put her in 83th place in the 200 “Greatest Singers of All Time”. In first place in front of Whitney Houston and various singers: Aretha Franklin.
9. The honor
Since March 2023, a stone with its name on the “Music Walk of Fame in Camden” is reminiscent of the most famous daughter of this district of London – which has been in the form of a statue since 2014.
