Mitch Winehouse fails at the London High Court: his lawsuit against Amy Winehouse’s friends Naomi Perry and Catriona Gourlay was dismissed. All details about the verdict.
On July 23, 2011, the world mourned the death of Amy Winehouse. The singer tragically died, leaving millions of fans stunned. It is well known that her life was marked by many difficulties, including family ones. But even after her death, things shouldn’t really be quiet. There were repeated legal disputes, particularly with regard to her inheritance, which always showed a similar pattern: her father Mitch Winehouse against another party. The most recent episode in this context was about the singer’s estate, because of which her father took two of her best friends to court. Now there is news about the case.
What was it about?
Mitch Winehouse is the official executor of his late daughter’s estate. In December 2025, he accused two of the artist’s close friends, Naomi Perry and Catriona Gourlay, of auctioning around 150 of Amy Winehouse’s personal items during her lifetime. The auctions are said to have taken place at auctions in the USA in 2021 and 2023. So the 75-year-old went to the High Court in London and sued the two women for a total of 836,000 euros.
Among other things, it was about a silk mini dress that Amy Winehouse wore during her last appearance in Belgrade. The two friends said the items were personal gifts from the musician. The fronts had hardened – but now the process has been decided.
Mitch Winehouse loses
On April 20, 2026, the court handed down its verdict. Mitch Winehouse emerges as a loser: his lawsuit was unsuccessful. Judge Sarah Clarke ruled: “In my view, neither Ms Parry nor Ms Gourlay knowingly withheld any of the disputed items from the plaintiff and, even if I were to be mistaken, Mr Winehouse could have used reasonable care to discover which disputed items were in the defendant’s possession,” Sky News reports.
Statement by Naomi Perry
Naomi Perry was not only a close friend of Amy Winehouse, but also her stylist. After winning the legal battle, she published a statement via Instagram in which she sharply criticized Mitch Winehouse.
She said the High Court had “clearly and completely cleared” her name after years of serious and unsubstantiated allegations made against her by Mitch Winehouse.
It continued: “I stood by Amy as a friend, a creative partner and her costume designer. What bonded us was based on trust, loyalty and a genuine love of the work. To see that relationship so publicly misrepresented was both painful and deeply unfair.”
It remains to be seen whether the loser of the process will leave it at that or file an objection.
