Amsterdam takes lead in play-offs against HCAW after spectacular victory

The baseball-players of Amsterdam Pirates have taken the lead in the play-offs against HCAW. With a spectacular 5-4 win over HCAW, it is now 2-1 in the best-of-five series.

In the Rob Hoffman Valley, Amsterdam took a 3-0 lead in the third inning. The reigning national champion tied the score in these seven innings and after nine innings it was 4-4. In the eleventh inning, Amsterdam-player Jules Cremer crossed home plate. In the tying at bat, HCAW was unable to score as Amsterdam won 5-4 vs. the Bussum-squad.

“We have our backs against the wall. We have to play two final games next week” HCAW coach Danny Rombley reacted afterwards. It seems unlikely that Rombley will have access to pitcher Lars Huijer. “He is injured. We have to take it day by day. I don’t know if he can pitch next week”.

“We fought to the end and that makes me very proud,” said an emotional Mervin Gario afterwards. The coach of the team from Amsterdam realizes that the series is far from over. “We’re just going to play baseball on Saturday. Of course we want to win, but we have to fight for it.”
