Recently the Uithoornse Council forced its own college to investigate the legal possibilities to resist the Amstelveen plans. To reinforce their worries, two Uithoornse councilors even addressed the Amstelveen council recently.
The choice for the location will be discussed later, but yesterday a majority of the Council voted for the stretched conditions. That means that there are not 201 only 280 asylum seekers at the new location. And that the location does not remain open for five years, but for ten years, because only then is it financially feasible according to the COA.
Take more account of Uithoorn
CDA party leader Arjen Siegmann tried to change the council. He stated that the Amstelveen College Uithoorn had attacked plans and submitted a motion to take more account of the neighboring municipality. The vote on the preconditions should therefore have been postponed, he thought.
That was against the sore leg of alderman Adam Elzakalai, who visibly explained Siegmann that he had already informed his Uithoornse Colleague alderman De Robles in the early stage of the plans. In the end, Siegmann turned out to be alone: his 36 fellow council members present voted away the motion.
Economic
The proposal on the stretched preconditions did make it. In addition to Siegmann (CDA), the five council members of four other opposition parties (active for Amstelveen, 50Plus, BVNL and ChristenUnie) also voted against.
Expansion of the number of asylum seekers for a longer term has been entered ‘by economic motives’ of the college, 50Plus party leader Emile Sjaardema argues. “It has little to do with now mandatory implementation to the Spreading Act.”
Deal with Ouder-Amstel
Earlier, the municipality confirmed to NH that Amstelveen wants to take care of more asylum seekers than necessary to make exchange with neighboring municipalities possible. For example, Amstelveen tries to close a deal with Ouder-Amstel.
When Amstelveen takes care of the asylum seekers of Ouder-Amstel, Ouder-Amstel takes over around 80 Ukrainians from Amstelveen. The care homes on the Maccibiadelaan where Ukrainians would be taken care of are then released earlier. They can then be put into use by the target group: people with a need for care.
