Amstelveen hockey talent Felice Albers (22) named best in the world

Hockey star Felice Albers (22) has been voted the world’s best hockey player of the 2021/2022 season by the international hockey federation FIH. The athlete from Amstelveen received almost thirty percent of the votes.

Despite her young age, Albers’ trophy cabinet is already filled to the brim, the international hocket federation writes her website. For example, the young woman has played an important part in the recent successes of the Orange in the Pro League, the European Championship, the World Championship and the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Nose for goal

In the role of attacking midfielder, Albers is involved in a lot of attacking creativity in the Dutch women’s team, the federation continues. She also has a nose for goals: in her 32 international matches she managed to find the goal 16 times. Her goal in the World Cup final against Argentina – as one of the most beautiful goals of the season – gets an honorable mention.

Albers is the second youngest winner of the award. Only the German Natascha Keller was even younger in 1999. But ‘no matter how young you are, you should always believe in your dreams’, Albers addresses her fans in her online victory speech.

The award for the best male player went to Indian Harmanpreet Singh, top scorer of the national hockey team of India.

The best male referee also comes from North Holland. The Amsterdam referee Coen van Bunge has been named and has written that title to his name.
