The pilot of the plane is said to have taken the plane from Tupelo Airport early in the morning and have been flying in circles over the town for more than an hour. The authorities then evacuated the area.
Tupelo police say they are in contact with the pilot, who threatens to intentionally crash the Beechcraft King Air 90 plane. The pilot is said to be an employee of Tupelo airport. “Citizens are being asked to leave the area until everything is clear. With the mobility of this type of aircraft, the danger zone is much larger than just Tupelo,” said the police.
Governor Tate Reeves added: “The state police and emergency managers are closely monitoring this dangerous situation. All citizens should be alert and follow the updates from the Tupelo police.”
