American avoids $4,564 fine for book returned 50 years late: ‘I was so ashamed’

It has happened to everyone: you rent a book from the library and return it a few days late after reading it. Not a mortal sin, provided you simply pay the fine imposed by the library. But the American Chuck Hildebrandt (63) had a really bad time. He returned his borrowed book to the library fifty years (!) too late.
