Amber Heard is reportedly planning to appeal the June 1, 2022 verdict in the defamation lawsuit against Johnny Depp after the jury ruled in favor of her ex-husband. According to Alafair Hall, a spokeswoman for Amber Heard, the actress plans to appeal the verdict.

Both Depp and Heard guilty

The court found both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard guilty of defamation. However, they awarded Depp the higher financial damages. So the actor received a total of $ 10.35 million. Amber Heard was awarded $2 million in damages.

Depp was actually talking about $15 million in damages, but Judge Penney Azcarat reduced the second amount from $5 million to $350,000 due to the state’s legal cap.

reactions to the verdict

After the verdict, Depp released a statement saying the jury had given his life back to him. Heard, on the other hand, said she was heartbroken by the verdict. However, she is even more disappointed about what this judgment means for other women.

She sees the verdict as a setback that throws back the time when a woman who spoke up could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It throws back the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously. She continued, lamenting that “the mountain of evidence is still insufficient to defy my ex-husband’s disproportionate power, influence and dominance.”
