Amazon: New AI functions personalize size recommendations

The US online retailer Amazon is introducing new AI functions on the product pages. With the new AI functions, customers should receive personalized size recommendations. Redesigned size charts, as well as review highlights and insights into product fit, are intended to improve the digital shopping experience, the online giant said in a statement on Monday.

The algorithm behind the AI ​​is intended to take into account the different size ratios and sizing systems of individual brands and clothing manufacturers. The personalized size recommendation also includes product reviews and customers’ individual fit preferences. The algorithm learns from millions of product details such as style, size chart and customer reviews, as well as from anonymized purchases, which it categorizes into similar customer groups based on size and fit preferences.

To make purchasing decisions regarding fit and size easier, the online retailer is introducing another new AI function, the specially highlighted ‘Fit Review Highlights’. The rating overview is based on the individual size recommendation, takes into account the reviews from customers who bought the product in the same size and summarizes the most important information in a compact manner.

In addition, the size tables on the product pages have been visually revised and supplemented with AI-generated information, which is intended to create standardized sizes.

The AI-supported product recommendation has also been further developed. There, the algorithm extracts the product data as well as reviews and return rates and gives customers new purchase recommendations based on their collected data. The ‘Fit Insights Tool’ was introduced for retailers and brands. In this way, clothing manufacturers should be able to better understand why certain products were returned.
