The US group Amazon reports rapid growth of its German online marketplace in the Corona crisis: According to this, the 45,000 affiliated small and medium-sized retailers sold 750 million products via Amazon last year, a good 100 million more than in 2020. A growing number of products are therefore sold abroad, as announced by Amazon Germany in Munich on Monday. Export sales rose to 4.25 billion euros, an increase of more than ten percent compared to the previous year.

Amazon is rather reluctant to publish business figures from individual countries, but publishes an annual report on the activities of small and medium-sized companies on the online marketplace. The company did not mention its total sales in Germany in the announcement. The five most in-demand product categories are home needs, drugstores and body care, clothing, sports and leisure, and gardens.

Die monatelangen Corona-Lockdowns in den vergangenen beiden

years had brought Amazon strong sales growth. So far this year, the company has opened three new shipping centers, and the number of employees in Germany is expected to increase by 6,000 to around 36,000 by the end of the year. (dpa)
