Andy Jassy, who took over as CEO of Amazon after Jeff Bezos stepped down in 2021, has had a stellar career. Above all, one skill is responsible for his success.
Jassy’s career got off to a great start at Amazon
After almost 30 years at the helm of the online giant Amazon, Jeff Bezos handed over management of the company to his confidant Andy Jassy, the previous cloud boss at Amazon Web Services (AWS), in 2021. When Jassy joined Amazon as a marketing manager in 1997, he was only 29 years old. Just five years into his career, he was invited to become Bezos’ advisor and attend all CEO meetings as quasi-chief of staff. Despite several colleagues advising him against it, Jassy accepted the offer because he saw the opportunity to strengthen his leadership skills, as CNBC make it reports.

With a positive attitude towards success
As CNBC make it reports, Jassy shared his best career advice in an interview with LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky: The trick to getting ahead at work, he says, isn’t being the fastest learner or the smartest in the room. Rather, it depends on a positive attitude. This involves working well in a team and meeting deadlines. According to the CEO, enthusiasm is an important key characteristic to take advantage of opportunities such as challenging tasks and training programs. You have to leave your own comfort zone and trust in your ability to overcome any challenges that arise. Therefore, a positive attitude can help build stronger relationships in the workplace. “You get advocates and mentors much more quickly,” emphasizes Jassy. Research has also confirmed the benefits of a positive attitude in the workplace. Among other things, productivity and creativity are increased and the risk of burnout is reduced.
Keep the big picture in mind
According to Jassy, if you have the right attitude, you should be able to confidently answer the following questions in the affirmative: Are you working hard? Can you do more than say no? Are you doing what you said? Can you work in a team?

Therefore, other principles are important for success. In a lecture, Jassy emphasized that you always have to keep an eye on the big picture and stick to your own goals and visions, as Business Insider reports. His predecessor Bezos always managed to get teams to think in larger contexts. Bezos also placed great value on speed, but at the same time stuck to his long-term vision for the company. He is confident in his long-term vision and where he wants to take things. Even if he is told that it is not possible, he is convinced of it. He believes it’s possible, and he’s adamant about that vision, Jassy reports.
