Amateur football club VV Emmen will continue to exist, three board members still see sufficient prospects

The amateur football association Emmen will continue to exist for the time being. This was decided on Wednesday evening during a members meeting in the clubhouse.

VV Emmen, the oldest football club in Emmen, is struggling with a lack of volunteers and a declining number of players. Last Friday it became clear that the association, founded in 1925, will stop playing performance football among the seniors with effect from the new season. The youth has been playing under the name FC Meerdijk since 2021 together with that of Sportclub Angelslo.

At the members’ meeting on Wednesday evening, four of the six board members resigned. One of them was chairman Peter Bouws, who was a board member for fourteen years and announced his retirement a long time ago. One board member was added, Bert Kolkman from Emmen. He now forms the board together with Jan Gerfen from Klazienaveen and Laura Wever from Emmen. ,,They still see sufficient prospects for the club”, said Bouws.

Recreational and youth football

It has been decided to continue with recreational football and youth. ,,VV Emmen also continues to facilitate the youth of professional club FC Emmen. This concerns the use of the accommodation of VV Emmen”, says Bouws.

The sports park of VV Emmen is located right behind the stadium of the professional club. About 40 people attended the meeting.
