Amal Clooney and Piccioli’s Balenciaga: a dress built on air
The mini dress comes from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s first collection for Balenciaga, presented at the latest Paris Fashion Week. The color is called bougainvillea, the fabric is silk and wool, the shape is cocoon: Draped off-the-shoulder top and fitted skirtwith a back panel that deliberately works on the space between body and fabric.
Piccioli’s entire vision for the maison lies in that calculated void: wide silhouettes, lightness as a constructive element, light years away from the dress that tightens and marks.

Gold everywhere: the clutch, the jewels, the shoes
To accompany the purple, Amal chose gold as the only counterpoint. The clutch bag is signed Begüm Khana Turkish brand that has been conquering international red carpets for a few seasons with sculptural pieces inspired by mythology. The pointed pumps are coordinated.
On the wrist the double Clash de Cartier bracelet, on the ears the Panthère earrings with emeralds: important jewels, worn with the nonchalance of those who consider them a natural part of the wardrobe. The hair gathered in a soft hairstyle completes a figure that references classic Hollywood.

Next to the black of George Clooney’s tuxedo, Amal’s bright purple works exactly as it should. He steps aside chromatically, she takes all the light. On the red carpet, Clooney joked with the press about the award, “a little embarrassing but fun,” and he has reported that he enjoys watching his old films less and lesswith one exception: Fantastic Mr. Foxwhich he reviews along with their twin children Ella and Alexander8 years old, who are “slowly understanding what I do for a living”.
