The Belgica has been docked since June 2024 due to a dispute with the French shipping company Genavir. After negotiations with Minister Matz, with the support of Francken, an agreement was reached with the shipping company in October. After thorough maintenance in dry dock, the ship can resume its missions.
“I am very pleased that the Belgica is sailing again thanks to this good collaboration. A ship does not belong on the quay. This will only benefit research, science and our scientists,” says Minister Matz. “In fact, the Belgica’s agenda is almost completely full. Until the end of the year, there is hardly a single day when the ship is not in use, both for research and for defense training.”
