Alps brace for heavy “Föhn storm”: gusts above 140 km/h and up to 200 mm of precipitation

From Thursday evening to Saturday morning, a powerful southerly storm will rage through the Alps, accompanied by intense rainfall on the south and west sides. This creates a risk of flooding, especially in areas such as Ticino, where precipitation mainly falls as rain up to 3000 m. The southerly wind will increase to gale force, with wind gusts in the mountains up to 120-140 km/h, possibly even higher. The center of gravity of the storm is expected to pass over Tyrol and the Hohe Tauern area in Austria on Friday afternoon.
