Alexander Schmid started the new season with promising results. But the winter sports year has ended prematurely for the 30-year-old.
Bad news for Alexander Schmid: The best German giant slalom driver has torn his cruciate ligament again. This means the season has ended prematurely for the 30-year-old. The 2023 parallel world champion sustained the injury in a training fall; the German Ski Association (DSV) speaks of a “complex knee injury” in its statement. The meniscus on the left knee was also affected.
After his World Cup title last year, a torn cruciate ligament set the Allgäu native back.
The technology specialist will also miss the World Championships in February in Saalbach, Austria. The DSV announced that Schmid had already been operated on on Thursday. “Alex is expected to receive inpatient physiotherapy treatment for a few more days before he can begin his first rehabilitation measures,” said team doctor Manuel Köhne.
Schmid had a promising start to the season. Most recently, he finished 15th in the giant slalom in Val d’Isere last weekend.
