    Lena Dürr (GER)

Now it counts for Lena Dürr. It doesn’t start quite as quickly as Colturi. Every now and then it slips a little, but stays there well. Overall, Dürr always loses a little more time and ends up in eleventh place.

  • 10:24

    Lara Colturi (ALB)

We also always have to reckon with a Lara Colturi. She gets off to a good start and Colturi stays ahead because of her clean turns! Can she keep it up on the last steep slope? Yes, it remains third place! 37 hundredths is a good starting position for the second round.

  • 10:22

    Britt Richardson (CAN)

Britt Richardson initially keeps up well in the upper part. But for her too, it’s the second half that takes up her time. With 1.56 seconds she slipped into ninth place behind Grenier. Rast is still clearly in first place.

  • 10:20

    Nina O’Brien (USA)

Nina O’Brien is taking an active approach and obviously wants to move forward. She chooses an aggressive and narrow line and is therefore half at the front. The lower part is no longer quite so secure. With just over a second it takes sixth place.

  • 10:19

    Sofia Goggia (ITA)

Sofia Goggia sets off, but also falls behind a bit. Goggia tends to pull back and slips back to tenth place.

  • 10:17

    Valérie Grenier (CAN)

Right from the start, Valérie Grenier is too reserved on the skis, so she slips too often and falls behind early on. This continues as the race progresses, resulting in Grenier finishing seventh.

  • 10:15

    Maryna Gasienica Daniel (POL)

Maryna Gasienica Daniel, on the other hand, has problems right from the start. Little by little she is falling further behind. Probably also because she lets it collect dust too often. In the end it was sixth place for the Pole.

  • 10:13

    Mikaela Shiffrin (USA)

Mikaela Shiffrin bangs her sticks together and sets off to attack the podium in the giant slalom. That also looks very good, because Shiffrin doesn’t make any mistakes and is therefore getting closer and closer to Rast. Although it wasn’t enough to take the lead, she also raised her fist in the air when she finally came third.

  • 10:12

    Thea Louise Stjernesund (NOR)

The piste sounds pretty scratchy, but it’s supposed to be more grippy. This is now also the case with Thea Louise Stjernesund, who can also keep up well. The Norwegian chooses a direct line, but slips away briefly in the same place as Robinson. Although she stays in, she falls far behind, more than two seconds behind.

  • 10:10

    Paula Moltzan (USA)

Will Paula Moltzan get through today? It looks quite neat in the upper part and comes around the gates very elegantly. She comes very close to Camille Rast, but cannot overtake the Swiss. With this good run, Moltzan achieved a good second place!

  • 10:08

    Zrinka Ljutic (CRO)

Zrinka Ljutic has problems finding the right line in the upper part. Of course, the long distances set the Croatian back a long way. But things don’t add up as the race progresses; she swings away at the finish, well over two seconds behind, and is really angry about it.

  • 10:06

    Alice Robinson (NZL)

Your coach has set the course. Can Alice Robinson benefit from this now? After a rather slow start, she quickly falls far behind, slips over the outside ski later in the course and is eliminated!

  • 10:04

    Julia Scheib (AUT)

Julia Scheib looks down with concentration, pushes herself out of the start house and quickly finds her way onto the course. There is significantly less dust than at Hector’s, but she doesn’t quite get a rest on the way. Stylistically, it’s very nice from the Austrian. In the end it was only enough for second place.

  • 10:03

    Sara Hector (SWE)

Sara Hector sets off immediately afterwards. But it sits a bit far back and slips too often in the turns. This costs time that she cannot make up for. Things look a little better on the finish slope, but in the end we are 85 hundredths behind.

  • 10:01

    Camille Rast (SUI)

And let’s go! Camille Rast opens the new alpine year and is looking forward to a steep start. The terrain has some waves, which are also built into the course. After 1:01 minutes the Swiss is down.

    It’s about to start

The forerunners are on the slopes and it will start in just a few moments.

  • 09:56

    These are the favorites

We have already discussed that Julia Scheib is one of the favorites. But we should also pay attention to Alice Robinson or Camille Rast. Sara Hector also knows how things work in Kranjska Gora. Last year she won the giant slalom there.

    Experience and premiere with Switzerland

Switzerland is also represented on the start list with an equally large team. Camille Rast is about to open the race, so she has a virgin slope in front of her and the best conditions to repeat her strong placings from the last few weeks. She often narrowly missed out on a place on the podium. But at Semmering it worked and Rast came second. With number 16, Wendy Holdener also has a remaining chance of making up a few places. But things get more difficult after that. Vanessa Kasper and Sue Piller are still a little halfway through the race. Stefanie Grob, Dania Allenbach, Shaienne Zehnder and Simone Wild, on the other hand, have had to wait quite a long time. If you have to think about a few of these names for a moment, you don’t need to worry. Zehnder has only appeared on the World Cup stage once so far. At the start in Sölden, namely. Today will be her premiere for Dania Allenbach, who is only 18 years old.

    End of season for Liensberger

First of all, the bad news: Katharina Liensberger, who has often been among the top 15 riders in the giant slalom this season, suffered a knee injury during training and will therefore miss the rest of the winter, including the Olympic Games. Despite this setback, the Austrian squad is once again very large. Eight athletes are registered for today. Julia Scheib (3) is one of the favorites in the race. She has already won three of five giant slaloms and came second once. Only in Tremblant was Scheib eliminated in the first round. There are four Austrians waiting in the midfield: Stephanie Brunner, Ricarda Haaser, Nina Astner and Franziska Gritsch, who can always look upwards with the right form. Viktoria Bürgler, Elena Riederer and Valentina Rings-Wanner complete the line-up. This will only be Riederer’s fourth World Cup start today. At Semmering a few days ago, she was eliminated in the first round on the giant slalom skis.

    Germany with four starters

Four drivers are wearing German racing suits today. Lena Dürr and Emma Aicher take to the slopes with start numbers 15 and 17 and have the best chance of placing in the front section of the DSV. Dürr has already achieved three top ten placements this season, Aicher failed to reach the second round twice, but was also in twelfth place. Fabiana Dorigo certainly wants to use the next opportunity to get a better starting position for the coming races. Today she starts in 33rd place. Jana Fritz starts with number 48.

    Welcome

Welcome and good morning! The new year starts today for alpine skiers with the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora. The first round with Camille Rast is scheduled to start at ten o’clock.
