Alpine skiing: Gut-Behrami reveals thoughts of resignation

Last winter, Lara Gut-Behrami was thrown back by a lung disease. The health problems even made the alpine ski star think about the end of his career.

“There are days when I think that participating in the Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo (2026, editor’s note) would not be a problem at all,” said Gut-Behrami in an interview with the “Virgin Newspaper“.

However, there are also moments “when I’m no longer sure if I still like the whole thing, if I wouldn’t rather do something else,” admitted the Swiss openly.

However, through strong performances in the summer, Gut-Behrami realized that she still loves alpine sports. “I enjoy it, also thanks to my environment and the fact that I’m healthy. That gives me a certain peace of mind,” said the 31-year-old, who left open: “Whether that’s another year, two or three years like that is? I have no idea.”

Gut-Behrami struggled with lung problems last season. In addition to an ordinary virus infection, she was also joined by the corona virus.

“As a result, I got 20 percent less air than usual,” the winter sports icon told the Swiss newspaper “Blick” in early October and described her suffering: “I took cortisone in the form of medication and then had to let everything cure for two or three months. “

Gut-Behrami has no more construction sites

However, she currently has “no major construction sites” anymore, on the skis “it goes well immediately. It’s fun that way.”

Gut-Behrami is doing even better physically than when he was 20. “I never thought that I could be so fit as a 30-year-old. That’s definitely related to the training with Alejo,” emphasized the alpine star However: “I have to learn to accept that after such a long time, not everything is easy.”

The Spaniard Alejo Hervas has been working with Gut-Behrami for around three and a half years.
