The Italian Federica Brignone is far ahead in the World Cup giant slalom. After a courageous run, Lena Dürr even has a chance of a medal.
In the first round of the World Cup giant slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Federica Brignone set out far from the competition. With a flawless drive on the Zwölferkogel, the Italian developed a lead of 0.67 seconds to Alice Robinson from New Zealand. In third place Paula Moltzan from the USA is already 1.24 seconds behind.
Dürr in the fight for the medals
Lena Dürr also has a say in the medal decision: the athlete from SV Germering – actually slalom specialist – showed a grand run and was the only one with a higher number. With the meanwhile seventh place and +1.89 seconds behind, she made a top output position: “I was really looking forward to the race”said Dürr after the first round on ZDF.
After Dürr gave away the medal in the team combination on Tuesday and showed disappointed after the race, she ran on Thursday as if freed: “I am glad that I succeeded”so Dürr. Above all, she helped “Not being asked”. The media hype in the giant slalom is “Already much less for me. I still have to get used to it in slalom, is not my world“She was able to show her quick giant slalom swing without pressure and expectation. This season Dürr had already become tenth at the World Cup round in Sölden.
Aicher and Dorigo with giant residues
Pauli Gut, the father of Lara Gut-Behrami, put a rotating but quick run over the cropped slopes. His daughter was also able to use it and develop a good starting position with fourth place. But her gap to Brignone is already 1.40 seconds.
The remaining DSV drivers Emma Aicher (+4.72 seconds) and Fabiana Dorigo (+5.92 seconds) had their difficulties with the course and remain in the giant slalom without opportunities.
